Children of the Great Depression
As many people know the Great Depression was a very difficult time for families. With little work available families struggled to afford everyday neccesities. One major factor of a families' struggle during the Great Depression was education. Multiple students had trouble going to school because of the lack of transportation. Not having enough money for school supplies children would have to use old worn out books provided by the school. Since there were some major budget cuts many school programs were closed. Children would also have to wear old torn and dirty clothes to school that made many of them to embaressed to even go. To help their parents make money many kids dropped out to shine shoes and sell news papers. Kids also had to help with spring planting and fall harvesting and they went to school half time or not at all. Most kids dropped out of school completely by the 8th grade. By 1933 many public schools closed leaving three million children with no school to go to.
