African American Children at School
African American children were allowed the right to go to school but did not recieve as good of an education as a white child did. All the schools were segregated nationwide, especially in the South. Since African Americans were amongst the poorest people, they had trouble raising funds for teachers and school supplies. Nationally, more than 25 percent of all students were black, but they only received 12 percent of all education revenues and only 3 percent of funds budgeted for school transportation. By 1934 there were only 59 schools for african americans in the south, twenty of these schools were private. Most African American students didn't get all the necessary care like some white children did. African Americans were not represented on most school boards and were unable to get better funds for their schools. Although only 25 percent of students were black there were some very prestigious schools for black student to go.
